National Space Centre Visit

On Monday 18th September, Key Stage 2 went on a school trip to the National Space Centre. Class 3 had so much fun!

First, we got on the bus at 8am and began travelling to the Space Centre. When we arrived, we followed the footprints to the orbiting Earth.

Our first activity of the day, was a workshop. It was called Mission: Mars Landing. We learnt about Mars and then we had to make a space craft for our eggonaut. Each team were given the same equipment and a time limit to make a parachute to hold an egg.

Once we had made our space crafts, we had to test them to find out which team won. A robot lifted the parachute holding the eggonaut up to the ceiling and after the countdown it dropped it to the floor. We had our fingers crossed the egg would survive – only one egg didn’t!

After our workshop, we headed over to the planetarium to learn about astronaut life. It was amazing in there, the screen surrounded us. It made some of our tummies feel funny! Then, it was time for lunch – we were starving after such a busy morning! After lunch, we headed to the rocket tower. It was lots of fun and we all got the chance to pretend to be an astronaut.

We also had lots of time to explore other parts of the National Space Museum. We looked at other areas called ‘Into Space’, ‘Exploring the Universe’, ‘The Planets’, ‘Orbiting Earth’ and ‘Tranquillity Base’.
